Getting these documents to Korea has been an ordeal and a half. After gathering all of the documents, checking and double checking that everything was right, and preparing myself to drop a ridiculous amount of cash (seeing most people quoted $70-$85 as the cost), I was finally ready to head off to Fedex. First of all, considering that I live in a major city, it should not have been as difficult as it was to find an actual Fedex in my neighborhood. Secondly, I realized that sometimes, being obsessive is a good thing.

The first “fedex” that I went to was in some shady warehouse and actually wasn’t a Fedex at all, but a place with fedex envelopes and a drop box. Why did they try to convince me that shipping would cost $110!!! Ummm, no ma’am.

Then my friends tried to convince me to use the international shipping from the U.S. postal service. As we stood in line at the posting office, I had this gnawing feeling that it was a bad idea. even though it would only cost about $45. Right away, I starting googling from my phone “Epik applications and usps”. And surely enough, warning after warning appeared with horror stories of documents not arriving to Korea until months later. Ummm, definitely no! Needless to say I got out of there, quick.

Lastly, I tried another Fedex that was on a college campus not too far from my house. And they told me it would be $55 and take two days to ship! I grabbed that form so quick. Afterward, I felt a sense of relief knowing that my docs were on there way to Korea and into the hands of Epik.

As soon as I got home, I got a little obsessive about tracking the package. My roommates thought I was being ridiculous. But good thing I did. The next, day, right after I got a notice that the package went through Incheon, I got another notice blinking red saying it was intercepted because of a damaged address label!!!

Why is this my life…

Hi. Well there is no exact “deadline” necessarily. The EPIK/GEPIK program will continue interviewing candidates until all of the positions are filled. The general timeline is April/May interviews, and if you pass, hopefully receiving your Notice of Appointment from a Metropolitan or Provincial Office of Education in June/mid-July. But I would say get your documents together and apply asap. Good Luck!

So, ya know when you try to prepare as much as possible for a skype interview? You do practice interview questions, pick out a professional outfit, do your make-up, and make sure you have good lighting. Yeah, well non of that was to my advantage yesterday, except for the practice questions. First off, I had to borrow a friends computer because mine hasn’t been working. 30 minutes before Im suppose to have my interview, my friend gives me the computer and says, “oh by the way, skype isn’t downloaded on my computer. Insert *angry face*. So I run to my room, and download skype, which took forever. Finally it downloaded, I did a practice test call, and everything seemed fine. Before the interview, my recruiter wanted to skype with me briefly just to make sure everything was in working order. So he calls me, and guess what? The camera isn’t working!!!

So i’m freaking out on the inside, but trying to stay calm, and my recruiter also starts worrying. Im trying to figure out whats wrong, and then the interviewer from EPIK calls in, which pretty much meant that i was screwed. My interviewer obviously couldn’t see me, but in the end was really cool about it. He just decided to go ahead with the interview as a phone interview instead, and I was so thankful. I’m still a little worried that this mishap will count against me, but I hoping for the best.

Aside from that major fail, the interview itself went really well. A lot of the questions that I prepped (found here: http://koreanskittles.blogspot.com ) were asked by the interviewer. For those who haven’t had their interviews yet, I highly suggest looking over some practice questions, and of course making sure that the camera works and that skype is downloaded on the computer you’re using :P

Hi! I stumbled across your page while researching Korvia. I am planning on going to Korea in August as well and I am applying to EPIK. I recently heard about Korvia and how much they can help with the process. I filled out the online app for Korvia a couple days ago and I was just wondering if you remember how long it took for them to get back to you? I'm super anxious to get everything locked in- I've got all my documents in order! Hope to hear back, Andrea

Hi Andrea. So I applied to Korvia on March 5th, got a response from a recruiter on March 7th, and had a skype interview with him on March 10th. I’ll admit, going through a recruiter has been helpful. He caught the mistakes that I’d made on my application form and suggested some corrections to make on my lesson plan. Going through a recruiter is also less stressful since they handle all of your documents. However, if you don’t get a response from Korvia by the beginning of next week, I would suggest applying directly through EPIK. The teaching positions are first-come first-served, and EPIK has already done two weeks of interviews. On the EPIK facebook page they posted a notice saying its not too late to apply with them directly. If you haven’t already done so, fill out the application form on the EPIK website. Have it ready just in case Korvia doesn’t get back to you in enough time. I hope I was of some help. Good luck!

Just got an email from my recruiter, and my EPIK interview is happening this Wednesday! Words cannot fully express how I am feeling right now. All I know is that I had a billion butterflies in my stomach before I opened the email. But praise god, its happening. Tomorrow, I’m putting myself on beast mode and doing some serious interview-prep. I’m not taking any chances with this interview.

I also I got my FBI background check in the mail 2 days ago. Luckily, my co-worker is going on a trip to DC this Wednesday and agreed to hand-deliver my document directly! So, everything is pulling together. I just pray that this interview goes well. Hoping for the best! 화이팅!
